Bear Mountain Resort in Victoria and its resort firm Ecoasis have announced that Canadian professionals Roger Sloan of Merritt, B.C., and Riley Wheeldon of Comox, B.C., have become official Bear Mountain brand ambassadors.
Sloan made his rookie debut on the PGA Tour last weekend at the McGladrey Classic in Sea Island, Ga., after finishing 24th on the Web .com Tour regular season money list, a season that also included a win at the Nova Scotia Open.
“Both my wife, Casey, and I are extremely excited to start a relationship with Bear Mountain Resort. We have always enjoyed spending time in Victoria,” said Sloan.
“Bear Mountain Resort now gives us the opportunity to take advantage of world class golf, coupled with fantastic outdoor recreation such as hiking, mountain biking and tennis to create a lifestyle we thoroughly enjoy escaping to,” he added.
Wheeldon finished the 2013 PGA Tour Canada season second on the Order of Merit after five Top-10 finishes and a victory. His strong play earned one of five Web .com Tour cards for the 2014 season.
This past season, Wheeldon split time between the Web .com Tour and PGA Tour Canada, where he tied for second at this year’s Vancouver Open, matching the course record by shooting a 65.
“British Columbia has always been home and the opportunity to partner with local companies like Ecoasis and Bear Mountain is a dream,” said Wheeldon.
“As a professional golfer it’s nice to align with a facility that offers more than golf. Bear Mountain also allows me to enjoy all the great things Victoria has to offer,” he added.
As part of the partnership, Sloan and Wheeldon have received honourary memberships to Canada’s only 36-hole Nicklaus design golf courses.
“Ecoasis is proud to champion Roger and Riley, two of B.C.’s most promising young talents as they pursue their PGA ambitions,” said Jordan Ray, director of golf operations at Bear Mountain Resort.
“Sponsorship not only allows these young athletes to focus on their careers, but also allows us to share their exciting journey with our own families, our residents and our golf members,” said Ray.
“Whether it’s golf, tennis or biking, Ecoasis welcomes the opportunity to promote sport development and to celebrate the achievement of dreams,” added Ray.
The pair will also represent the relationship by sporting a hybrid logo of Bear Mountain Resort and Ecoasis on their apparel.
