Liz Hoffman of Thornhill, Ont., has been named president of the Golf Association of Ontario.
Hoffman has been an elite athlete, coach and administrator and currently serves as the University of Toronto’s director of athletics. She was president of Canadian Interuniversity Sport from 1995-97 and of Ontario University Athletics from 2002-04 and is still a member of the board of directors for both organizations.
Hoffman was captain of the U of T swim team for three years and played on three undefeated field hockey teams between 1968 and ’71
As a coach, she led the Varsity Blues field hockey team to 16 Ontario titles and eight CIAU championships in 20 seasons and was named CIAU coach of the year three times. The annual award for Canadian university field hockey player of the year is named after Hoffman, a member of the U of T Sports Hall of Fame.
In golf, she is a former Ontario junior and Quebec amateur champion and played on the national team in 1973 and ’75.
