Johan Immelman has been named to the board of directors of the Canadian Tour
“The Canadian Tour is becoming more of an international organization every year and the appointment of Johan Immelman brings tremendous experience to our board at the highest levels of the game,” said Jim Kabrajee, chairman of the board for the Canadian Tour.
“Mr. Immelman brings a wealth of insight to a board that is already rich with talent from the world of business,” he added.
Immelman is a past commissioner of the South African PGA Tour and currently serves as chief executive officer for the Sbonelo Scholarship Foundation in Charlotte, N.C.
Immelman started his career as an architectural draughtsman before joining Distell, a South African producer and marketer of fine wines and distilled spirits.
In his 23 years with Distell, he served as marketing manager for its international division, as well as president of Henry C. Collison and Sons, based in Arlington, Tx. He also served as marketing director for Castle Wine and E. K. Green, another subsidiary of Distell.
Before his appointment as commissioner of the Sunshine Tour in South Africa, Mr. Immelman was the project director for the John Cunningham Leadership Institute at Columbus State University in Columbus, Ga.
Johan and June Immelman have three children, including 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman.
Their eldest son Mark is the head golf coach for Columbus State University and their daughter Michelle and her family live in Somerset West, South Africa.
