Don Campbell, a 48-year member of the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association and former superintendent/general manager of the Riverside Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon, died last Sunday.
He is survived by his wife, Marie, his daughter Sherril Koroluk (Lorne) and his sons Doug, superintendent at Riverside Golf and Country Club (Kim), and Glen, who is the principle in the Glen Campbell Golf Course Design Company.
He was the recipient of the 2004 CGSA John B. Steel Award for distinguished service and the recipient of the 2002 RCGA (Golf Canada) Distinguished Service Award for his role in the success of several national championship events between1964 and 1995.
A supporter of turf research in Canada, he was instrumental in the establishment of the Canadian Turfgrass Research Foundation and continued to provide support to the CTRF through his work with the Saskatchewan Turfgrass Association.
Don will be fondly remembered at a memorial service on Saturday at St Martin’s United Church in Saskatoon, beginning at 11 a.m.
