The Arnprior Golf Club in Eastern Ontario has announced that Steve Williams has been named to the combined roles of general manager and greens superintendent.
“The Board recognizes Steve’s work ethic, his fiscal management of his own budget, his ability to motivate staff, his organizational skills and his passion for our Golf Club,” the club said in a letter to members on its Facebook page.
“The Board did have concerns that this new role would diminish his progress on the course and would lie outside his comfort zone,” it said.
“However in addition to his superior qualifications as a Greens Superintendent, Steve has over the past years taken multiple business courses to educate and prepare himself to pursue his ultimate goal which is to be a General Manager of a golf course,” it continued.
“He admits to stepping into a steep learning curve in some aspects, yet has charted a path of continuous learning through the upcoming winter,” said the letter.
“Steve has attended almost every Board meeting held since he was first hired. He has a very clear understanding of the fiscal and operational realities of the position as well as a very clear vision for the club,” it said.
“In addition, by combining the roles of GM and Superintendent, the Board has additional flexibility to compensate the new position at fair market value thereby giving us another tool to retain first class talent like Steve Williams over the long term,” said the letter.
Williams assumes the new role on Nov. 1.
