The Nottawasaga Inn Resort in Alliston, Ont., is seeking a director of golf and grounds operations.
Reporting to the vice president, the successful candidate will coordinate all operations of our 45-hole golf facility and related resort operations.
That person will implement the overall operations of two golf shops, personnel, course player assistants and all other related personnel. This is a hands-on position.
Responsible for the daily golf course operations.
Recruit, interview, hire, direct, schedule, review, and communicate with all management and supervisory employees of golf grounds, golf shop, player assistants, starters and back shop personnel.
Adjust personnel levels to align with business levels. Discipline and coach employees when appropriate up to and including dismissal.
Administer all tee sheet-related activity to include member rounds, guest rounds and public play. This includes tee sheet management and group and/or shotgun events.
Responsible to ensure that all golfing activities are played in an appropriate time and that golfer satisfaction is paramount.
Coordinate with the golf teaching professional(s) all golf lessons to include clinics, junior programs and special events. Provide continual recommendations for program improvements to foster increased sales and satisfied guests.
Manage all golf events.
Liaise with group and conference sales as required for golf booking and event coordination.
Liaise closely with the golf course management and grounds crew to keep abreast of all maintenance activity and course playability. Advise and direct as necessary.
Liaise with the golf pass holders/members to foster superior relations and increased annual sales. Attend functions as necessary with the men’s and ladies golf associations.
Administrative duties: evaluate daily labour records, schedule and conduct health and safety and staff meetings, report on golf rounds. As necessary, comment and advise on new technology.
Train new and existing employees in job functions, equipment operation, guest service standards and departmental information. Included in this section is opening and closing procedures. Liaise with accounting as necessary and assist employees with cash out procedures.
Assist with the buying of all golf retail merchandise.
Be an expert in all golf sales to include merchandise.
Train all personnel in the golf shop to be fully conversant in our sales culture to include all golf products from green fees and carts to shirts and golf balls. Provide and train for specific standards to include telephone answering procedures.
Coordinate with the golf grounds management the care of all sports related facilities, in particular the two international sized soccer fields.
Prepare and implement a long range plan for the golf shops and related services.
Coordinate care of golf carts to include operation, cleaning and maintenance.
Coordinate care and maintenance of the gardening crew and related gardens and grounds in and around the resort.
Be a champion of superior guest/golfer service.
Maintain security of golf course property and buildings.
Offer expert opinion and advice on any golf maintenance and long range plans to include any course design changes as necessary.
Any other duties as reasonably requested.
Graduate diploma or degree in Golf Management or Business.
A minimum of three to five years as a golf manager/director in a comparable golf facility.
Extensive experience in golf operations, tournaments, merchandising and program implementation.
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
Thorough knowledge of golf maintenance practices.
Highly visible leader.
Friendly and outgoing personality.
Computer skills to include Outlook, Excel and Word. Experience with POS systems.
Passionate in hiring and training a highly motivated golf team.
Ability to work with a very diverse, multi-faceted team.
