The Edmonton Country Club, a private facility that was established in 1896 and has operated in its current location since 1912, is in need of a head golf course superintendent responsible for the care and maintenance of all areas of the golf course and grounds.
The head golf course superintendent will report directly to the general manager.
Ensure that all aspects of the maintenance and care of the golf course area are looked after to a level that meets or exceeds the expected standards of the Edmonton Country Club.
Control and forecast all payroll and expenses associated with the golf maintenance operation.
Schedules, train, supervise and evaluate all personnel assigned to department.
Maintain accurate work records for all personnel in the department.
Supervise all planting, fertilizing, care and removal of turf, plants, shrubs and trees on the golf course.
Inspect course regularly to evaluate and recommend improvements.
Plan any and all future improvements to the golf course, and oversee all construction, maintenance and renovations.
Supervises operation of the equipment repair area.
Prepare annual budget for department, take corrective action as necessary to help assure that budget goals are met.
Prepare and revise the grounds manual.
Establishe short and long-range plans for the golf course.
Develops and maintains drainage, irrigation and watering systems.
Implement and enforce comprehensive safety program for employees, members, and guests on property in compliance with municipal, provincial and federal laws.
Ensure that chemicals, petroleum and other controlled products are used, stored and disposed of in accordance with municipal, provincial and federal regulations, maintain required records and strive to minimize the use of chemicals and petroleum products.
Communicate regularly with the head golf professional to discuss conditions of facilities, maintenance plans, scheduled events and the number of rounds played.
Communicates as necessary with grounds committee or other applicable committees.
Attend staff and management meetings.
Keep members informed about current and future maintenance activities.
Plan professional development and training activities for the department.
Make recommendations for capital improvement and purchases.
Supervise road and roadside maintenance within the club’s grounds.
Ensure proper landscaping for property outside of golf course, including the clubhouse and surrounding areas.
Coordinate applicable work with outside contractors.
Determine when course should be closed due to weather conditions that may damage the course if play continues.
Conduct other appropriate tasks assigned by the general manager.
Member in good standing of the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association.
Minimum three years’ experience as a head golf course superintendent preferred.
Valid driver’s licence.
Pesticide applicator’s licence.
Full-time, year round position.
