The Donalda Club in Toronto is seeking a golf course and grounds manager.
The individual will work with other department heads in the design and delivery of a first-class member and guest experience.
Under the supervision of the general manager, the golf course and grounds manager is responsible for the overall operations of the grounds department including the golf course, clubhouse grounds, landscaping, 12 Har-Tru clay lighted tennis courts (six covered in winter), driving range, putting green, parking lots, maintenance equipment and wooded areas.
Responsible and entrusted for the successful operation and management of the golf course maintenance department, tennis courts, parking lots and overseeing the clubhouse grounds maintenance, including winter snow removal.
This includes providing agronomic direction to maintain the golf course at the highest quality at all times following industry standards for the healthy growth of the golf course grasses, trees, and other applicable plant materials.
Programs for turf/grass, material and chemical maintenance and asset management are critical to the success of this role.
Knowledge of and good working relationship with regulatory bodies; TRCA, MOE, Urban Forestry, etc.
Preparation of an annual budget and achieving the financial goals throughout the year, through proper forecasting, expense controls and labour management.
Maintenance and oversight of course irrigation and watering practices.
Work closely with the general manager on capital projects to maximize member enjoyment of their golf.
Keeping members informed about current and future maintenance activities.
Work closely with the human resources manager for hiring and compensation of staff, compliance with club staff policies and developmental training programs.
Attend all greens and golf committee meetings.
Effective communication with members, staff and external stakeholders.
College or university diploma or degree in turf management is required.
Minimum seven years of experience working at a golf property. Private club experience is an asset and preferred.
Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management.
Knowledge of turf management equipment operation, safety and training.
Proven leadership skills based on experience.
Diplomatic team player able to foster relationships with members, guests and staff members.
Proven communicator and team player.
Established relationships with vendors, suppliers and sales representatives.
Ability to put together presentations and deliver to the board, members and staff
Knowledge of current, local, provincial and federal laws and regulations affecting golf course operations.
Licenced/certified as a pesticide applicator.
Knowledge of the management and maintenance of clay tennis courts is an asset.
Valid driver’s licence and safe driving record.
Ability to work flexible hours.
Computer-based working knowledge, including Word, Excel, e-mail and internet and keyboarding skills.
Fluent in oral and written English.
