Cabot Cliffs and Cabot Links in Inverness, N.S., are seeking a year-round equipment manager/golf course mechanic, who will oversee two turf care buildings located 15 minutes away from each other and be responsible for the oversight and direction required to repair and maintain an equipment fleet for a 36-hole golf resort.
Maintains a pleasant and professional manner at all times when addressing associates, contractors, sales personnel and/or any guests.
Inspects and diagnoses mechanical defects and/or equipment failure on diesel, gasoline and electric engines and motors.
Ensures all practices and tasks are in compliance with the environmental protection and occupational health and safety policies at all times.
Is committed to mentoring, teaching, leading and inspiring all colleagues to develop themselves and the efficiencies of the operation.
Can maintain records related to equipment repairs and costs relating to labour and parts.
Is confident in operating the Toro My Turf Software.
The ability to efficiently maintain a fleet of over 200 operational units for a 36-hole golf resort.
Three years’ experience as a head golf course mechanic.
Experience directing and developing an equipment fleet preventative maintenance program.
An understanding of the game of golf and how reel set up, cutting units and other golf maintenance equipment affects and impacts the playing surfaces of a golf course.
Experience with Bernhard Reel and Bed-knife grinders.
Must demonstrate knowledge and an understanding of a maintenance and repair program designed around the operational requirements of diesel and petrol engines as well as electrical motors.
Must demonstrate knowledge and an ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic systems on various heavy and light duty maintenance equipment.
Must be able to fabricate small hand tools and equipment working with metal, aluminum and wood.
Fully knowledgeable of the work place hazards related to the role of a golf course mechanic and the challenges of working outdoors.
Able to ensure all practices and tasks are in compliance with the company’s environmental protection and occupational health and safety policies at all times.
Proficiency with computer software, including word processing and spreadsheets.
A key leadership role on a passionate, driven and expanding team that has been assembled, with golf course superintendents and assistant superintendents who have global golf management experience and have worked coast to coast on several top-ranked Canadian golf courses.
