Cobra has expanded on its King name, adding the new King F7, which builds on the King F6 and is Cobra’s first F7 One Length set.
“The 2017 iron offering is COBRA’s most innovative and exciting yet,” said Tom Olsavsky, head of research and development for Cobra Golf.
“Not only have we improved our progressive sets this year, but we are introducing our first-ever One Length option that will help to bring more consistency and simplicity to the game of golf for all players. In 201,7 we will truly have an innovative, high-quality iron solution for every type of player,” he said.
The King F7 irons incorporate Cobra’s patented Tecflo technology that features advanced cavity construction to improve the performance characteristics of each iron.
A new PWRSHELL face introduces a thinner face and sole structure that increases the sweet zone for better distance, precision and forgiveness.
Tecflo, along with a new, Thin, Optimized, Personalized (TOP) polymer medallion badge that is lighter than steel, allows the CG to be moved lower for even more distance and forgiveness.
CNC milling is used to improve groove structures to deliver better spin and trajectory control throughout the set. Using Progressive Spin Technology, Cobra combined progressive grooves and CNC milling for maximum spin for each iron type.
A full hollow design with PWRSHELL face insert in the long irons (three to five) delivers low centre of gravity with an extremely responsive face for easier to hit, high-flying long irons.
In the mid irons (six-seven), a half hollow design combined with PWRSHELL technology delivers enhanced CG for more precise, easy-to-hit clubs for more greens in regulation.
The scoring irons (eight-PW) utilize a traditional cavity back design with wedge spaced grooves for added spin and more control.
Rounding out the KING F7 set is a specialty wedge design to provide added versatility and enhanced shot control greenside in the sand and gap wedges.
Available in both right-hand and left-hand, The KING F7 eight-piece set (four-GW) or combo sets (2-3, 4-5h plus 5-PW) will be available in steel and graphite combo with Lamkin REL-Black grips and in either a Fujikura Pro 63i (graphite in stiff, regular, lite) or True Temper King F7 (steel in stiff and regular) shaft option.
The F7 Irons for women (7-GW plus 4-5h, 5-6h) feature the same technology as in the men’s irons, including Tecflo construction and PWRSHELL face,
King F7 One
Progressive Spin Technology and premium chrome plating offers an attractive finish and durability. The ladies stock combo set is available with two hybrids and five irons. They feature COBRA Lamkin REL silver/pink or black/blue grips and graphite Fujikura Pro 55i.
The men’s King F7 One Length irons make their debut as Cobra’s first ever single-length iron set.
Inspired by the brand’s relationship with rising PGA Tour player, Bryson DeChambeau, King F7 ONE utilizes a similar TECFLOT construction as the KING F7 along with PWRSHELL Faces and T.O.P. Technology.
However, the KING F7 One features constant length irons that have been re-engineered for seven-iron length and weighting throughout the set, and are designed with geometry to produce consistent trajectory and distance gapping from long irons to wedges.
Cobra says its research shows that across the board players testing King F7 One Length irons improved in accuracy, with tighter distance and dispersion variation from shot to shot, leading to increased confidence and better iron play.
In addition, the clubs one-length design simplifies the set-up for one swing through the set leading to more centered club face impacts.
Cobra also says its testing demonstrated improved short-game performance with the single-length set, due to the simplicity of set-up and execution.
“I approach the game of golf a lot differently than most, primarily from a scientific standpoint,” said DeChambeau.
“I have a more technical, unique swing than many other players, but there is a misconception that single-length irons are only for a single-plane swing like mine. That is simply not true,” he said.
“Regardless of how you swing and what your skill level is, you can benefit from the simplicity of a constant length set of irons. I am proud to be at the forefront of this with Cobra as preliminary research has shown that single-length sets can make the game easier and more enjoyable for players of all swing types,” he added.
The King F7 One will be available in both right-handed and left-handed versions, in steel stiff and regular flexes, and graphite stiff, regular and lite flexes and will feature a five-GW standard set make-up.
They are offered with Lamkin REL-Blue grips with red and white accents and in either a Fujikura Pro 63i (graphite) or True Temper King F7 (steel) shaft options.
King Forged Tour
The King Forged Tour irons utilize the same premium technologies as the King Forged One, but with a traditional set length and head weight progression.
The KING Forged Tour, which also use a five-step forging process, are designed with Tungsten Weighting, employing high-density tungsten weights that are strategically positioned on the sole of the clubhead for a lowered and centered CG to blend forgiveness and precision.
A TPU Insert located behind the hitting zone damps vibrations and improves feel, while CNC milled faces and grooves are used to improve the structure and maximize spin and trajectory control.
The King Forged Tour is available in right-hand only and in a standard stock set composition of four-PW (3i and GW available in custom) steel stiff/regular flexes.
They are offered stock with Lamkin Crossline–Black grips and KBS TOUR FLT steel shafts and premium chrome plating.
Cobra Golf’s offering also includes One Length specialty wedges in 56-degree v and 60-degree v featuring the a KBS Tour FLT steel shaft and Lamkin Crossline AC -Blue grip with red and white accents and the same seven-iron length as the King Forged One Length set.
The versatile grind design features toe, heel and trailing edge relief and is combined with Cobra’s iconic notch technology which allows the club to sit square and lower at address.
Cobra’s patented milling technique offers enhanced surface roughness across the face to help maximize spin and control for more precise shots around the green.
The One Length Wedge is designed with 8620 nickel chrome plated carbon steel.
