It’s supposed to get up to 17 C by the end of the week here and if the weather continues as it is, it could be huge for the industry and for morale.
We’ve been spending a lot of time discussing the economy in Alberta and across the country, but if you took a look at the Calgary Herald recently, you would have seen on the front page that Fox Hollow Golf Course was open in February.
We’ve still got snow here at Cottonwood, but we’ve been out to the range to clear off where we put out mats.
The city can use the boost that the weather is providing. It does help morale in general, but as for the industry, if we can can get people out banging golf balls for awhile, why wouldn’t you, even if you get the range open for two or three days, then have it snow for another couple of days?
The main thing is sending out e-mails and getting people excited about golf and the club. I won’t put any pressure on to get the course open.
We don’t open on temps and that’s just our policy, but if we can get people out to the range or do a food and beverage promotion and get your staff pumped up, it provides a lift to a lot of people.
At our last management meeting, we were talking about April 1 for opening and I don’t think we’ve ever talked seriously about that date. It might happen, it might not.
All I know is we’ll be ready for it if it comes.
