Carrying on from my previous blog about controlling our own destinies and not getting caught up in recent doom and gloom stories in the media, we need to look at the opportunities that are out there.
There’s no question that rounds of golf are down and people are playing less. I struggle with the affordability question, at least in my market. I understand it, but I don’t know if that’s the first flag I would raise.
For me, it’s more about access and making the game what people want it to be and asking the right questions about what they would like to see.
I think golf courses will start to do more with less because it can be done
This is our livelihood and a game that we all appreciate. Fifteen years ago, about every golf course around had a waiting list, but those days are over. A change in eras means a change in tactics.
We did a TV ad this year and that’s rare for us, but people are joining. We’re getting a younger people and that’s a big demographic change that we’re going through. We need to promote and get the game out to that younger demographic.
It can be such a family opportunity and opportunity is the key word. They do exist in golf and we need to ask the right questions in order to get out there and find them.
