We were expecting more snow on Thursday night and although golfers favour summer, consistent winter weather is a good thing for the golf course.
We closed around Thanksgiving and had three very good weeks to get on-course projects done and things put to bed, as well as getting some work done on our irrigation system.
Then, a cold snap came and we got hammered with snow. Temperatures were around -26 C with the wind chill, so we definitely got a good blast of winter, with a deep layer of snow.
We’re hoping it goes the way it did last year when we got snow and cold and it stayed. The last thing you need is for the golf course to keep freezing and thawing, but so far, so good.
It may go against our nature as golf operators, but if it has to be winter, let it stay that way for the good of the golf course.
