As I mentioned in my previous blog, we’ve run into staffing issues at Point Roberts, which has the potential to make it difficult to attend the B.C. trade show, Oct.13-15 in Penticton.
Depending on the weather, our show can be at the absolute perfect time for me because if the weather turns the week before the show, it’s fine because it’s totally dead here.
On the other hand, we can experience really nice weather here in mid-October. The last couple of years, it’s been golf weather. At that point, when you only have three or four people here and you have to go away for three days, it’s tough.
The drive to Penticton, without bad weather, is about four hours for me and the cell phone is definitely on in case something happens.
At that time of the year, every day that you wake up and it’s not raining, you’re excited. You say, `Hey, I can pay another bill!’ As weird as it sounds, you almost hope for bad weather because if it’s nice, you don’t want to be away.
It’s tough, but it’s one of those things where you have to strike a balance between what the vendors need and what the operators need. The vendors need to have their time, as well.
For the most part, I think our dates work in B.C. We’re making a push here to get members more involved in the show in order to increase participation.
It’s just one of those things to which you have to commit. The thing is you know it’s coming, so you can commit to it well in advance and follow-through at show time.
