That’s a great story about my old friend Jeff Buder of Point Grey Golf and Country Club being able to play in the returning Canadian PGA Championship. You can read about that here.
If you don’t know the story, Canadian PGA executive director Gary Bernard sent a letter to explain the new Canadian PGA rankings and somehow, it came to the attention of the board of directors that Jeff had qualified for the Canadian PGA Championship.
They started asking, `When do you fly out?’ and Jeff said, `I’m not going.’
They said, `What do you mean?’
Jeff replied, `It’s our member-guest week.’
They said, `So? You qualified for this, so you should go. You’ve got assistants that can run the member-guest.’
His board actually wants him to go and I think that speaks volumes about the Point Grey Golf and Country Club. There’s probably only a handful of golf clubs in this country that would do that. I really think that’s not the norm.
When Jeff told me that story, I thought to myself, that’s the sign of a great membership. The members have looked at it and realized what an important and prestigious event it is and that Jeff has qualified for it and should be rewarded for it.
I think it’s great. I love hearing that story.
