We had a couple of our golf courses within the Windmill Golf Group open on March 9, so the season is definitely off to an early start here in Calgary.
Even the Hamptons, our private club, opened on April 8 and it seems like the last two or three years, it’s been getting earlier and earlier.
This year, it isn’t a case of opening and then the snow falls. I supposed that’s possible in Calgary, but we’ve been regularly getting warm temperatures in which players can get out and play comfortably.
The construction of Mickelson National will stay on schedule, however. We had a meeting a while back and there was still about a metre of frost in the ground, but we’ll probably start moving dirt around the end of April.
The nice thing is that we’ve got nine holes shaped and the drainage is in. It will be great to get the irrigation in and the seed down, so by summer, we’ll start to see some growth.
It’s fantastic to see what the holes are going to look like. It will be great to show people here’s the tee and here’s the green to help them better visualize a hole.
We’re on target for our 2018 opening and it should be exciting watching Mickelson National come together this year as we get closer to that date.
