I love visiting the RBC Canadian Open and this year is no different. I flew in from Calgary to be at Glen Abbey this week.
The RBC Canadian Open is like trade shows for me. It give me the opportunity to visit with people I don’t see every day. For example, I’ve known new Golf Canada CEO Laurence Applebaum since my days at Angus Glen, where I also worked with Tim Green, who will be at the Open for ClubLink.
It may be networking, but I look at it more as rekindling relationships and I always look forward to seeing golf professionals, general managers , superintendents and representatives of golf equipment and apparel companies.
I know people like to speculate about meetings with Golf Canada officials. It’s no secret that we’d like to have the RBC Canadian Open at Mickelson National once it’s built, but I’d say that at any golf course I worked. I’ll always want a Canadian Open and it was a wonderful experience to host two at Angus Glen.
So, I’ll admit that now, but it hasn’t gone beyond that point. The golf course is coming along, but it isn’t finished, so time will tell.
In the meantime, there’s plenty to enjoy just as a visitor this week.
