A lot of people have been saying, `Where’s the global warming with a wind chill of -40 C?’
The early part of this winter has been a frigid one and who knows what is to come? I think more than anything, we just need to respect that Mother Nature is such a powerful force and we’ve got to be ready for anything.
Sometimes, things happen so closely together, so we had the flood in Calgary, followed shortly afterwards by another flood in Toronto, both happening in the same summer. Then, came the ice storm that hit many parts of eastern Canada.
In past blogs, we’ve talked about the importance of having a great insurance agent, so we can talk about what would happen if there was a flood, or lightning strikes, or a tree falls on to the clubhouse or the power goes out for six days?
It’s better to be proactive instead of reactive is the main point.
My son said to me, `Why are there so many floods and ice storms?’ and I answered. `When I was young, I’m sure they were there, but that wasn’t the era of instant news.’
I know now if there’s a flood on the west coast as it begins to happen, but 30 or 40 years ago, we had to wait for the news, so the way we hear about things may make it seem as if they are happening more frequently now.
One thing is for sure.
I think Mother Nature is a wonderful thing, but it’s also a powerful force that needs to be respected.
