With all of the discussion surrounding Golf Canada recently, I’m still a big supporter of the program.
By bringing out Golf Canada with the new logo etc., they showed that they’re heading in a new direction. I think they’re introducing some good initiatives.
They did some focus groups. They came and spoke with me and a lot of other pros and general managers and I think they’re on the right track.
Maybe, the numbers that they thought they’d get to in year one and year two were aggressive, but they haven’t backed down on their initiatives.
They’re the voice of golf in Canada and they want to be the voice for every golfer, be it private, be it resort or be it public.
You’re never going to be all things to all people. You’re never going to have 100 per cent buy-in.
Some golfers don’t want parameters. A lot of people don’t want to be involved in a club or have a handicap. They just want to go out and play nine holes or 18 holes.
I think you can get a lot of the more serious golfers, but you’re never going to get everybody, so it’s important that you continue with new initiatives and venture into uncharted territory.
