Going back to just before the holidays, the GNN Poll asked readers if, in the wake of recent allegations, it’s time for their places of employment to discuss sexual improprieties, assault and comments and establish a zero tolerance policy.
The answer left no doubt, with 88 per cent saying yes to that question, indicating that people are taking the issue seriously these days in the workplace.
How serious is now the question.
With such a serious topic, there are landmines and grey areas that any such zero tolerance policy would need to address, with the very definition of harassment or misconduct varying from person to person, leaving it open to interpretation.
So, would your place of employment take this issue seriously enough to consult a lawyer or human resources expert to formulate that policy, or save money and attempt to do it without expert opinion and just go with a set of guidelines it came up with internally?
That’s the question for this week’s GNN Poll.
