Canada Day not only marks this nation’s birthday, but also the beginning of the second half of the calendar year and, it could be argued, the second half of the golf season.
This year, depending on where we are in Canada, the golf season got started ridiculously early and for some, it was a cool, damp spring, so some of us may get a longer season than others and who knows what kind of weather the fall will bring? Let’s just enjoy the summer we have right now.
There’s no need to quibble on the exact date the halfway point of the golf season falls, for it’s a moving target, based on location, El Nino and anyone of a number of factors, but for argument’s sake, the holiday weekend just concluded is as good as any.
For that reason, we’re looking for mid-term marks on how business is going so far in 2016 where you work, be it a golf operation, retail store, golf club manufacturer, or apparel company. We’re just trying to capture the mood of the golf industry, with no particular focus on one particular segment.
Of course, let’s no go with traditional school marks. Let’s go with a scorecard on which an eagle is top mark and double bogey the worst.
