Look for Mike Weir to make an announcement in February about his fledgling golf course design career.
It’s widely expected that Weir will name Toronto’s Ian Andrew as his design partner and the first project could very well be one near Predator Ridge in Vernon, B.C., although that deal is not done yet.
“I’ve gone through a long process to make sure we get the design team together,” said the 2003 Masters champion. “We’re very organized in a smart way.”
Weir brings more than high profile and design to the table in what will be a tough economy as he starts out in this phase of his career.
He believes the other aspects of his design and business life, including his wine interests and a soon-to-be announced Weir fitness component, make his group unique in a competitive marketplace that seems certain to be hit by a slowing economy.
“The economy affects everybody,” he said. “We’ve positioned ourselves in a unique situation with what we can bring to the table.
“There’s a number of different things that we’ve incorporated that maybe makes us a little bit more unique than maybe somebody else has to offer. Hopefully, we can ride through this downturn,” said Weir.
