As this story in the Calgary Herald that GNN linked to last week indicated, the Alberta government, due to recent falling oil prices, will review the previously-announced $18-million rebuild of Kananaskis Country Golf Course, which was damaged so extensively in the 2013 flood. That’s prompted the circulation of an online petition once again on social media to save the golf course. You can see that here and here … It’s those same falling oil prices that could greatly influence whether golf becomes a legitimate business expense in next month’s federal budget … Nearly half, or 47 per cent, of respondents to last week’s GNN Poll described their current job security as solid, but the rest were less secure, with 30 per cent saying their respective positions were shaky. Another 17 per cent said they were out of a job with six per cent describing their situation as day by day … This week’s poll is all about the relationship between golf operations and the markets in which they operate, You can read about it here and vote at the bottom of that blog or on the GNN home page … Mike Weir is returning to play at this week’s Valero Texas Open. It’s the first time he’s teed it up on tour since withdrawing from the Honda Classic with soreness in the muscles around his elbow. Other Canadians in the field include Graham DeLaet, Adam Hadwin and David Hearn … It will also be interesting to see how Brooke and Brittany Henderson fare on the Symetra Tour this week. They’re among the Canadians at Florida’s Natural Charity Classic. Brooke, 17, has two wins so far on the Suncoast Series and in both of those wins, Brittany was runner-up. I chatted with both of them last week. You can hear Brooke here and Brittany here … Adam Svensson made his professional debut on the weekend at the Daytona Beach Open, where he shot rounds of 67-68 to tie for fifth at that Florida Professional Golf Tour event. I also chatted with Svensson before that tournament. You can hear that interview here.
Wishing my good friend Craig Barlow luck tomorrow at the Web Chile open!! Im looking forward to getting back in action myself next week!!
