A fundraising effort on GoFundMe by the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame to digitalize the vintage Canadian Golfer Magazine has gone over its goal of $6,000, but such an effort needs to continue. There were plenty of Canadian golf magazines over the decades that should be preserved that are just on paper at this point in time. You can listen to a chat I had with Meggan Gardner, curator of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame on that very subject here … Funny thing about this clown is that Sandy Hingston says the real death knell for golf is that Donald Trump enjoys it as do his “shady friends.” If golf dies, what will Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama, going to do without it? If golf is so exclusive, how is all that bitterness oozing in? … With Grey Cup festivities heating up this week in Ottawa, those who would put down the CFL are making their voices heard again, which isn’t much different than when I covered the league years ago. I often hear the same condescending attitude towards LPGA Tour by those who compare it to the PGA Tour, even if most of those doing the criticizing would have their rear ends handed to them by top female players. Personally, I enjoy both NFL and CFL and both brands of golf and understand that some prefer one over the other in both cases, but often wonder why they feel obligated to criticize what they don’t watch. Actually, I always think of those who would watch both as the true sports fans, but those who feel obligated to criticize as insecure in their need to feel big league. Imagine watching sports just for fun? What a ridiculous concept … With two top-10 finishes in his first five events, Canadian rookie Ben Silverman has moved to sixth on the PGA Tour priority list for getting into tournaments in the new year after a reshuffle was done following the RSM Classic. It also moved Corey Conners, another rookie, up to 24th. Conners, who graduated from the Web.com Tour along with Silverman, didn’t miss a cut in his first five events, his best finish a T30 in the season-opening Safeway Open… Silverman is also 49th in FedEx Cup standings, while Conners is 115th … The next reshuffle will take place Feb. 18 after the Genesis Open … Silverman has also moved to 237th in the world rankings … The Shaw Charity Classic on its fifth anniversary raised a record $8,391,413 for 159 youth-based charities across Alberta, bringing its all-time total to more than $22.1-million … Stephen Ames finished 18th in final Charles Schwab Cup points … Brooke Henderson finished sixth in the season-long CME Race to the Globe standings. Henderson finished the season with $1,504,869 and remains 13th in the women’s world rankings. She also finished second on the LPGA Tour in overall birdies with 403 .. Alena Sharp is ranked 101st in the world … Last week’s GNN Poll asked readers how they would compare the rounds of golf they played this year compared to the rounds they played when they first got into the industry. The majority of respondents are playing less, with 52 per cent saying their number of rounds is drastically lower and another 24 per cent saying somewhat lower. Another 24 per cent said they’re playing the same number of rounds or more … This week’s poll asks if $15 an hour should become a standard minimum wage across Canada, despite the risks of layoffs, reduced hours and rising prices. As of this writing, 69 per cent of respondents say no, with 31 per cent voting yes. If you haven’t already, you can cast your vote on the GNN home page.
