Golf has been accused of living too much in the past, but Pinehurst No. 2, a Donald Ross gem from the past, has become a beacon for golf’s future after hosting the recent U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open.
Before those two premier events took place, Brad King of the Pilot in Moore County, N.C., took a look at the factors involved in the decision to launch a restoration by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw.
One reason is rooted in the past, that being the character that Ross intended in their estimation.. Another is based on the future, to provide a sustainable model that some predict is what’s to come in the game.
