The majority of respondents to the GNN Poll don’t expect a recession in Canada anytime soon. As of Tuesday evening, 65 per cent said Canada wasn’t heading into recession despite recent layoffs, falling oil prices and a sinking loonie. We’ll leave the poll up for the rest of the week and if you haven’t already done it, you can chip in with your vote on the GNN home page … While we’re at it, a strong majority of respondents to the poll the week before said they expect a course in their respective markets to soon be used for something other than golf. Based on what they’ve heard, 78 per cent said they expect a golf course to be sold or used for housing developments and other uses. You can see an archive of past polls by clicking “GNN Polls” in the box at the bottom of the home page … I know some will argue with me, but “yips” is a term that applies to putting, coined according to legend by Tommy Armour who suffered from the yips on the greens. With the Tiger obsession back on full throttle after his performance at the Waste Management Phoenix Open on the weekend, the term “chipping yips” has become prominent. That’s like every controversy now having the word “gate” behind it, even if Watergate took place decades ago. Let’s just come up with something new, but since nobody wants the yips, most probably don’t care about it … Architect Jeff Mingay will present at the PGA of Alberta’s Spring Seminar, along with golf instructor Mike Adams and sports psychologist Dr. Rick Jensen. Hadwin didn’t make the cut, but he did keep the zanies happy on 16th when he stuck this one close.
