The latest round of job cuts at Bell Media hit close to home as I knew a few of the people who were let go at CTV, TSN and other operations across the country, leaving them with suddenly-uncertain futures just before the holidays.

Obviously, I hope all of them land on their feet, but the point of mentioning this is not to lament the misfortune of media colleagues. Such stories are taking place outside of media, as well.
In a completely different industry, Maple Leaf Foods is cutting more than 400 employees, or 11 per cent of its salaried work force. You can read more about that in this story from the Toronto Star.
Whether such cuts are made to return a company to profitability, or simply to make a profitable company even more profitable, there is still a human toll in a country in which the unemployment rate is seven per cent.
The good news for the golf industry is that rounds are reportedly up across the country this year, but does that necessarily lessen the possibilities of job cuts in any golf-related business?
