Even the usually-hyperactive Kevin Thistle was saying last week that he was looking forward to the upcoming holiday break.
It’s been quite a year for the new GM of the Coppinwood Golf and Country Club and noted GNN blogger after leaving his longtime place of employment at Angus Glen in nearby Markham, Ont. and taking on a new challenge at Coppinwood.
The entire industry has had a long year with rough weather, extreme fires in British Columbia, the economy, H1N1, possible declining participation and other influences that made this a year to remember – or maybe forget.
At times, it seemed like we’d get past one challenge, only to have another right behind it. That’s not to say that positive things didn’t happen or that there weren’t good times in 2009, but the feeling I get is that the industry is ready to take a breather.
Here at GNN, we’re planning to take a bit of a break ourselves.
As our first calendar year comes to a conclusion, the first website ever devoted to the Canadian golf industry will remain open for its readers over the holidays, but we won’t be posting anything after Friday unless there’s breaking news that needs the industry’s attention.
In the meantime, shopping and other cheer that goes along with the holidays takes precedence as I hope they do with all of our readers at this time of the year.
That brings us to our GNN Poll question of the week, which isn’t as industry-focused as usual. We just want to know if you plan on staying home and enjoying the holidays with family and friends or are you planning to get away over the holidays?
Be sure to drop by the poll to cast your vote.
We’ll continue to update GNN to the end of this week and, as mentioned above, we will be on call in case of breaking news.
What’s up in the GNN Forum?
Cordova Bay in Victoria is seeking an equipment technician. It’s in the Job Posting section of the GNN Forum.
