When we first launched GolfNewsNow back in September, the mandate was not only to become a news and information source for the Canadian golf industry, but also to offer a sense of community to the trade in this country.
Many within the industry have commented to me that they now click on to GNN through their morning e-mail blasts and have a quick read of blogs and stories over their morning coffee, which is exactly the way it was intended.
We hope more people stay on top of what’s new at GNN by signing up for those e-mail blasts on the ‘Be an Insider’ box in the upper portion of the home page or by visiting the subscribe page, because there is now even more reason to stay tuned to this website.
The GNN Forum is up and running, offering every reader a chance to read about different aspects of the golf industry through the postings of our readers. The forum is our latest step towards creating that community for the golf industry that was part of our mandate at the beginning.
You can be a regular in that community by clicking on every day to see what’s new in the forum, but you can also actively participate in this community by posting your own discussion or replying to a previous post.
In order to do that, you will need to register. To find out how to do that, see the News Now story on the home page entitled ‘How to Sign Up for the GNN Forum.’
Once you’ve done that, you will see several different categories in which to make your posts. The timely issues category will likely create some lively discussion on various topics and we encourage that. All we ask is that you respect one another in offering your opinions, which are sure to differ in many cases.
Please be sure to read the rules before proceeding with controversial subjects.
There is also a section within the forum in which GNN will forward your questions to industry leaders about various topics.
The GNN Forum is set up to be about more than issues. If, for example, your golf course has an opening, please announce in the job postings category within the forum.
If you have a special occasion coming up such as an annual general meeting, please post it in our coming events section.
If you are bewildered by a problem you face in your day-to-day duties, post it on the forum. Perhaps, somebody in Alberta can help somebody in New Brunswick because they’ve dealt with the same problem before.
The GNN Forum has a multitude of uses so go to it and have fun, but please be respectful of one another. The room will be moderated.
As of this writing, there are no posts in there, so maybe you will have the distinction of being the first to participate in one of the forum categories.
NEW POLL: GNN has heard mixed reviews about the consumer golf shows that have taken place so far this year. Many are of the opinion that these shows are dying, while others believe that consumer shows are still a good place to market products, facilities and services.
So what’s your opinion?
Are these shows useful or useless? Let us know by wandering over to the poll and telling us what you think.
CLUBLINK ON THE PROWL?: A persistent rumour has ClubLink Corporation about to acquire the 36 holes at The Club at Bond Head, northwest of Toronto.
