After blasting headline writers and the golf media in general after a story he wrote during last year’s RBC Canadian Open claiming that Mike Weir was washed up, Sun Media’s Steve Buffery turned his attention on me because I disagreed with him in a follow-up column.
Only Beezer, as he’s known in Toronto, waited about eight months before returning his shot and he’s convinced that the 10 tournaments Weir has played since the Open backs up his original claim. You can read his remarks here.
My contention is that, at the age of 40, Weir still has time to turn around his fortunes from a lengthy spell that has included injuries and the loss of his full-time playing privileges on the PGA Tour.
I responded to Buffery’s told-ya-so column on Monday in my Sun Media contribution and you can read that here.
