Nice. Just kidding folks, I’m happy for you, especially those in Atlantic Canada who couldn’t escape winter a year ago. Besides, it’s supposed to be 14 C here by next week, but I agree that this is weird even for an El Nino year … “Dump Trump” will be a rallying cry for some at this week’s WGC-Cadillac Championship at Trump Doral, which means if they got their wish, the PGA Tour could be separating itself from the next President of the United States, a very real possibility at this point in time. However, how hard can golf come down on Donald Trump for his controversial comments, when the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers at Muirfield, the site of 16 Open Championships, is just in the process of sending out postal ballots regarding the admittance of female members? Word is that Royal Troon, the site of this year’s Open Championship, is about to do the same. It’s just been in the past few years that women have been admitted to iconic sites/organization as Augusta National and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, but golf never severed ties with any of the them, while half the population was left out. We could go into Sergio Garcia’s comments about Tiger Woods a few years ago. As much as golf, to its credit, is trying to convey a message of inclusiveness these days, it isn’t totally without such issues … If the Dump Trump movement has its way, it also means “Dump Doral” and the victim will be Miami, which has had a relationship of over 50 years with the tour … After Trump’s strong showing on Super Tuesday, Google is reporting searches for “How to move to Canada,” went up big time, according to this story from the Montreal Gazette. One website, entitled Cape Breton If Donald Trump Wins invites American Trump-ugees to come live in Cape Breton, bragging that “Cabot Cliffs, often called the `Pebble Beach of Canada,’ was ranked Best New Course in the World 2015. Golf Digest. Ahead of Trump Golf Links Ferry Point (New York)” … With play at Doral about to get underway, the Tiger watch will briefly go quiet with assurances last week that there is no timetable for Woods to return. Then next week, the media will perk its ears up at a rather innocuous statement by Jack Nicklaus about Tiger looking healthy, or something similar from another revered name, and the buzz will start all over. All due respect to the Golden Bear, but he was better known as a great golfer than a medical practitioner … This week’s GNN Poll which, asks if you are losing interest in social media as a business tool for marketing, communications, etc., remains close with 53 per cent saying their interest remains high and 47 per cent of respondents saying they’re losing interest.
