With the arrival of December, t’is the season to publish goofy top-whatever lists and the Golf Channel did just that with its Top 10 Best Shots of 2013, which you can read here.
When it comes to excellence, it’s curious that some feel the need to rank things like top shots that you can just enjoy as a memorable moment, often taking place at a critical times in a competition.
For that reason, there’s no denying that the shots picked by the Golf Channel deserved to be on the list, which emphasizes the fact that Graham DeLaet’s performance at the Presidents Cup didn’t make it.
You may remember DeLaet chipping in from 30 feet on the 18th hole of his foursomes match here to force Keegan Bradley of the United States to sink a 10-footer to square the match. That left DeLaet and partner Jason Day with a 2-1-1 in the team competition of the Presidents Cup.
It was on to singles play, where DeLaet made shots such as this one on the fifth hole against Jordan Spieth before he clinched a victory by holing out again on 18, only this time from a greenside bunker. Have a look here.
Maybe, it’s because DeLaet’s International team didn’t win that one or all of these shots weren’t chosen to the Golf Channel list, but the fact that he delivered at key times in Presidents Cup matches should put these shots on the list, either individually or as a compilation.
Who cares? These lists are usually just the result of a slow news time in golf.
What these shots do underscore is DeLaet’s ascension on the PGA Tour this year and stand out as a memorable moment in Canadian golf this year, which we’ll bring you more of as 2013 winds down.
