It’s a pretty safe bet that the 2011 RBC Canadian Open won’t be played in Ontario after the Royal Canadian Golf Association makes known the host site later today.
By the time 2011 rolls around, Ontario will have hosted five consecutive Opens with stops at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Ancaster (2006), Markham’s Angus Glen (2007) and two straight at Oakville’s Glen Abbey. The 2010 Open will be played at Toronto’s St. George’s Golf and Country Club.
I’m going to stick with the original prediction I made here back on Nov. 26. You can read it here.
A move west to Vancouver’s Shaughnessy Golf and Country, the site of the ’05 Open, seems to be the logical choice for 2011. The RCGA has penciled in the new Terrebonne course near Montreal for 2012, so it seems likely that a return to Ontario won’t happen until 2013 when Hamilton is likely to host the Open again.
That scenario also sets up a two-year span between Quebec stops with Royal Montreal likely to get the Open in 2014.
