It’s been a year since a Canadian won on the PGA Tour, the last victory coming when Calgary’s Stephen Ames took a two-hole playoff at the 2009 Children’s Miracle Network Classic in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., near Orlando.
Ames was unable to defend that title last weekend after a back problem that was bothering him all season forced him to withdraw from the Justin Timberlake event in Las Vegas a few weeks ago.
Ames says the back is fine now and his decision to take the rest of the season off was purely precautionary.
I had a chance to chat with him for my Sun Media column, which appeared on Monday. You can read that here.
