Rivershore Golf Links in Kamloops, B.C., is looking for an assistant superintendent.

The successful candidate will display communication skills and the ability to execute and direct the functions of course operation and be responsible for fertilizer and chemical applications, supervising and scheduling staff.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the course diligently to detect trouble spots and areas of special attention.
  • Supervise and delegate work assignments to staff, based on the direction of the superintendent.
  • Monitor the performance of staff, initiating possible corrective action.
  • Liaise closely with the superintendent in formulating schedules.
  • Train and guide designated staff, ensure employees are accounted for and their work is performed efficiently and effectively while adhering to the environmental protection, health and safety acts.
  • Execute safe and timely application of all fertilizer and chemical applications.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or as assigned by course superintendent.

Qualifications


Mandatory

  • Must be able to follow direction and work independently, gain respect of peers and subordinates through effective management skills.
  • Valid driver license, Valid B.C. pesticide licence or ability to obtain.
  • Experience in operation of a water treatment plant would be an asset

Desired

  • First Aid /CPR.
  • Golf WHMIS.

Knowledge & Education

  • Technical schooling in the area of plant and soil science, two-year diploma or degree in golf course management.
  • Two years minimum of relevant on-the-job experience in grounds maintenance is essential.

FAIRMONT CHATEAU WHISTLER

The Fairmont Chateau Whistler in Whistler, B.C. seeks a full-time, year-round mechanic.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and maintain all golf service-related equipment and machinery.
  • Repair and maintain all hotel vehicles.
  • Order and manage a reasonable inventory of parts and service equipment.
  • Perform general maintenance and handy work around the golf operation.
  • Train, coach and supervise colleagues involved in the golf mechanics shop.
  • Be health and safety conscious and actively involved in maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Actively participate in the Fairmont Chateau Whistler’s environmental program, working towards sustainable operations.
  • Comply with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts policies, procedures and code of ethics.
  • Perform any and all other tasks that are assigned by management.
  • Uphold the highest standard of internal and external customer service at all times.

Qualifications

  • One to two years previous experience as a golf course mechanic is preferred.
  • Certified mechanic is required.
  • Toro certification an asset.
  • Fabricating experience is an asset (i.e. welding)
  • Proficient at reel set up and reel grinding.
  • Physically fit as position requires lifting, pushing/pulling up to approximately 100 lbs.
  • Problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible work schedule and multi-task.
  • Must be innovative and reliable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, effectively establish relationships with co-workers and guests.
