Dick Grimm Should Be An Icon For All Ages

I was sorry to hear that one of my great mentors, Dick Grimm, won’t be present tonight at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando to receive the George Cumming Distinguished Service Award and become a PGA of Canada lifetime member.

Dick’s health is the first priority, but I was ecstatic to hear that he this would be one of several honours that have come his way for his incredible career and the positive impact that he’s had on the game over the years.

As a matter of fact, I sent an e-mail to PGA of Canada executive director Gary Bernard when I first heard the news that Dick was being so honoured.

Dick has been my mentor for years. When I first met him, he was the king of golf and still is in my mind. He may be semi-retired — he’ll never retire, knowing Dick — but just ask anybody who knows him about his impact and they’ll tell you the same as what I’m saying.

I’ve had more coffee with Dick than anybody else in the golf business — he takes it black by the way — and everyone from my generation will attest to his contributions.

The nice thing about the award that will be announced tonight is that it will familiarize a lot of young PGA professionals with Dick’s career and accomplishments.
