I Want To Believe Golf Is Rebounding
August 31, 2010 by Kyle German
The first two weeks of August were probably the busiest I’ve ever seen it for that time of year.
I’m not sure if the reason is the improving economy and, to be honest, I really don’t need an explanation. I’ll just take it. I think a big part of it is that we’ve had such good weather and people just want to be outside,
Since mid-June, we’ve had about two days of rain and it wasn’t that hard. I think we’ve had four or five days that we would categorize as hot. For the most part, it’s been between 22 and 25 C, with a little bit of a breeze.
It’s been beautiful.
The one thing I’ve noticed is that we’re seeing quite a few people here that we haven’t seen in some time.
I haven’t had a chance to stop and talk to a lot of them about what brought them back. I don’t know if it’s because they went and played other golf courses and then came back here, or they’re just playing more, but we’re definitely getting a lot of repeats now, which is great.
I want to say that the game is starting to rebound and it’s on people’s minds again. Whether I’m saying that as a golfer or as a golf course operator, I’m not sure, but I want to say that the game’s in a rebound.
We may not be back to year 2000 numbers, but I think we’re probably getting to where it was before the big dip in participation. That’s what I like to believe.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
