We’re Ready To Spend Some Dough
August 16, 2010 by Kevin Thistle
Earlier this year, I wrote a blog about how we were holding off until later in the summer to decide on major capital expenditures for next season.
We’re actually putting plans together right now for what we might do this winter, with the main focus being the clubhouse.
Last year, we did paving and a locker room renovation that saw about 70 new lockers go in, but those were things that needed to be done. Like I said in the spring, we took a wait-and-see attitude on the things that could wait.
If we get approval on the clubhouse renovations, we’re going to show the members our plans before we close. We have Christmas parties and get-togethers, but often, the last time you see people is around the end of November and you don’t see them again until April.
We’ll give the members a presentation, so they can get excited and say, `Hey, when I come back in spring, I’m going to see these new things,’ and we’ll get a buzz going.
It made sense to be careful with major expenditures and concentrate on the things that needed doing when the economy was slow. Nobody saw the economy being as bad as it was and maybe some people sunk their money into something they didn’t really need during the downturn.
I’m confident in the economy again and I’m confident with our standing here at Coppinwood, where we’re having a banner year.
July was fantastic, our membership is up and I can count on an X amount of food and beverage purchases, annual dues and pro shop sales.
I can do a better forecast now that we’re in a good position going forward into a future that will see some positive changes around the club.
