The Canadian Tour will have a Saskatchewan stop through 2013 with a new agreement with the title sponsor, Dakota Dunes Casino.

The tournament will be renamed the Dakota Dunes Casino Open and will have a purse of $250,000 beginning this year, up from $150,000 the first two years of the agreement.

The tournament was known as the Saskatchewan Open, which began in 2008, and will continue to be played at the Dakota Dunes Golf Links.

“Saskatoon is fast becoming a model event on tour thanks to the outstanding support of the local community,” said Canadian Tour commissioner Rick Janes.

Zane Hasen, president and chief executive officer of the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority, said the tournament will be a complement to the activities at Dakota Dunes.

“The Canadian Tour provides tremendous exposure for both the golf course and the neighbouring Dakota Dunes Casino. Golf fans attending the Dakota Dunes Casino Open can enjoy a complete entertainment experience during a visit to the area,” he said.

Chief Darcy Bear, who played an important role in bring the tour back in 2008, agreed.

“The tournament is a great event for our travel corridor and the golf fans in Saskatchewan. The event is growing each year and that’s good for everyone involved,” he said.
