Economic Recovery Is Across The Board
May 20, 2010 by Kevin Thistle
A real positive aspect of the economic recovery is that it appears to be across the board instead of exclusive to specific companies.
Large manufacturers have mentioned to me that they’re seeing a big increase in their business over last year and it may be the economy, the confidence of consumers or the early start to the season.
There are a lot of good things going our way in golf this year. The great thing is, when I talk to the manufacturers, they’re saying that they’ve been talking to some of their competitors and everyone seems to be having a good year so far.
It’s a nice thing that it’s not just one company that’s taking all of the market share, All of the companies seem to be having a good year.
The stars seem to have aligned. The economy seems to be coming back. With the weather, a lot of people were playing in March this year.
Hopefully, if they didn’t buy that new set of irons or that new driver last year, they’ll be treating themselves this year. Our shop sales are way up. Guest play has been wonderful and it has the making of a strong season.
This year at Coppinwood, we have about 360 members compared to 130 when I came here in 2009. That’s all kinds of memberships that are available. We had a good winter and the spring started off nicely.
The challenge for us as a club is to make sure that we supply the service that we’ve set ourselves up for. We’ve still got a long way to go, but you just keep aiming for better and better.
The environment this year compared to last is certainly conducive to making great strides.
