Taylor Up For Award; Hill Gets Exemption

Matt Hill of Bright’s Grove, Ont. has received a sponsor’s exemption for the AT&T National, July 1-4 at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pa.

This marks the second straight year in which Hill, 21, has earned an exemption into the PGA Tour event. Last year, when Hill won the NCAA Division 1 individual title, he tied for 70th at the AT&T.

This year, Hill finished third at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship and won the Hootie at Bull’s Bay Intercollegiate for the second time. He was also was named to the All-ACC men’s golf team for a third consecutive year.

Hill will tee off with his North Carolina State Wolfpack teammates at the NCAA Men’s Golf Regional Championships later this week at the Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind.
In other college news, Nick Taylor of Abbotsford, B.C., has been named a finalist for the Ben Hogan Award, presented to the top college golfer in the NCAA.

Playing for the University of Washington Huskies, Taylor, the low amateur at the 2009 U.S. Open, was named Pac-10 Co-Golfer of the Year after earning a top-10 finish in nine of 11 events. He also led the team wit a 70.73 scoring average.

Taylor is among three finalists for the award, which will be handed out on Monday at the Colonial Country Club in For Worth, Tex.
