Cundari Named CPGA President

Glenn Cundari has been elected president of the Canadian PGA, replacing the outgoing Lindon Garron of St. Andrews, N.B.

Cundari, who was elected at the Canadian PGA annual general meeting on Wednesday in Moncton, is a teaching professional and owner of the Cundari School of Golf in North Bay, Ont.

“This new responsibility is very important to me. The members of the Canadian PGA have my full commitment.” said Cundari, who has been serving with the national board of directors as its secretary and with the National Education Program as master facilitator.

“My involvement to date with the Canadian PGA has allowed me to continually learn about our industry and meet many members who are in the field, providing employers and the golfing public with a first rate Canadian PGA experience,” he said.

“To say that I am honoured to be elected to the position of president is an understatement,” said Cundari.

“When I was very young, I told my dad I wanted more out of golf than just playing. At the time, I didn’t know what that meant, nor what to do about it,” said Cundari, who was inspired by one particular individual.

“It was because of Canadian PGA professional Jeff Rogerson that being a Canadian PGA professional became a consideration,” said Cundari.

“He was my first golf professional as a kid and I’m not exactly sure what he did or how he encouraged me, but he did and I hope to inspire other professionals and kids in the same way that Jeff inspired me.”

Cundari will have immediate challenges as his term begins after the Professional Advancement, Career Enhancement (PACE) program was passed at Wednesday’s AGM.

“Our PACE program is a giant leap forward for the entire golf industry. The acceptance from our membership on this proposal will allow all current and future members of our association to benefit from the career paths and doors that this program will now allow us to open,” he said.

“In addition to our Canadian PGA members, the true winners will be every golfer and every facility that comes in contact with a Canadian PGA Professional,” he said.

“At the end of the day, PACE is all about providing an opportunity through employment to make a better living and live a better life for our members.” added Cundari.

Cundari has participated in various Canadian PGA committees throughout his career such as the National Education Committee, the PACE task force, the national finance committee and he chaired the national Future Links Junior Golf Advisory Committee.

He has also represented the Canadian PGA at various events of the World PGA Alliance, PGAs of Europe and at major golf events with World PGA partners such as the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship.

“This is a very exciting time to be a member of the Canadian PGA,” said Cundari, winner of the 2007 Jack McLaughlin Junior Leader of the Year Award.

“With our PACE program about to be launched, the Centennial celebration in 2011 and the plans we have to promote the association, I can’t wait to get started and we will hit the ground running after building on the hard work of my predecessors.”

Also elected as officers of the association were Gregg Schubert of the Cottonwood Golf and Country Club near Calgary (vice president) and Constant Priondolo of Club de Golf Vallee du Richelieu in Quebec (secretary).
