Executive Director Candidates Have Been Short-listed

The final step of the process of finding a new executive director for the Canadian PGA is now underway, according to association president Lindon Garron.

“All the applications have closed. We’ve short-listed and interviews will begin next week,” said Garron.

The Canadian PGA is hoping to have the new person in place by the beginning of the new year after former executive director Steve Carroll announced his resignation in August. Carroll left the job at the end of October and has since joined the Royal Canadian Golf Association.

Director of education Gary Bernard has been serving as interim executive director.

Garron would not say how many potential candidates there are, but “what I can tell you is there are some really good candidates for the position, a good mix,” he said, adding that the new executive director will not necessarily have to come from within the Canadian PGA.

“Some things that haven’t changed is the ability for our executive director to be knowledgeable in our specific areas that we need expertise in, whether it be education, marketing, communication or finance,” he said. “Those are our top priorities.”

Those skills could come from inside or outside the association, said Garron.

“Not necessarily,” he said. “Certainly, as was advertised in the job description, we would prefer someone who is knowledgeable about the golf industry and, in particular, the Canadian PGA, but if that person can demonstrate successful skills in other areas, we would certainly look at that person, for sure.”
