Pleasant Conditions, Soft Course … So Far
November 22, 2009 by Kyle German
GNN blogger Kyle German is back on familiar ground at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie in Florida where he won the 2008 Titleist and FootJoy Canadian PGA Club Professionals Championship. As he did at the RBC Canadian Open, Kyle will provide daily blogs to GNN from Port St. Lucie.
We played Emerald Hills near Fort Lauderdale on Friday, relaxed a bit and drove up that evening to Port St. Lucie and played here Saturday and Sunday.
There’s been very little wind, so its’ different than last year. The weather has actually been nice and warm, but I don’t know if those conditions will hold. They’re calling for thunder showers and that means there’s a system moving in.
The course is pretty soft already. The greens last year, with the wind and the course being a little bit dry, meant you had to do a little more thinking.
A lot of it this year will be firing right at the flag and it will stay for the most part. The rain will make it a bit softer, so you can be a little more aggressive.
There’s seems to be a lot of new faces down here this week, but I’m expecting a good week. As for pressure as defending champ, there may be a little with guys wishing me luck and congratulating me for last year, but most of the pressure is self-induced.
On Sunday night, we were going to head over to a Canadian PGA reception, but keep it somewhat low-key and make it an early night. My tee off is 8:24 a.m. Monday morning, so it will be an early rise.
The defence begins.
