Have A Great Day, Eh?
June 30, 2009 by Ian Hutchinson
Happy Canada Day!
If you’ve got the day off (or a couple of days off), GNN wishes you a relaxed time with friends and family, enjoying a barbeque or fireworks or even one or two cold ones, but drink responsibly if that’s the case.
If you’re working, we wish you a full tee sheet and brisk business in the hope that Canadians aren’t letting an annoying recession get in the way of playing the game. Sometimes, golf just finds a way, even under tough circumstances.
For that reason, take a moment this Canada Day to think how good we have it in the Canadian golf industry.
We may bellyache occasionally about slow sales or less disposable income for clients/members, but things could be worse than what we’ve seen in Canada since the economy started going south last autumn.
For one thing, I don’t think Canada has been hit nearly as hard by the recession as our friends in the United States and there are signs now that the worst may be over for us. Be sure to read tomorrow’s blog on that subject.
So, for those who feel the media have overcooked the recession with doom and gloom stories, take a moment today and think about what’s right with the Canadian golf industry.
Think also about the buzz for the game that is being created by some of this country’s top young stars recently. Any kind of positive news will have its effect on the trade, so you may want to read a column I wrote on Monday for Sun Media. It’s right here.
Enjoy the day!
