Goldberg Wins California Q

March 29, 2009 by

Aaron Goldberg shot a final round 73, but it was good enough to overtake David Hahn and capture the Canadian Tour’s California Q-School by one stroke.

Goldberg finished at three-under 285, while Hahn bogeyed four of his final nine holes for a closing 76 and a four-day total of 286.

Brock Mackenzie struggled to a 75, but finished solo third at 287, one ahead of Canadian Dean Kennedy.

Finishing in fifth spot at three-over par 291 were Ezequiel Reyna (72) and fellow American Brad Ward, who shot a final round 73.

Jesse Barnsley (71) and Canadian Ryan Plitz (72) also earned exempt cards with their four over par 292 scores, while Michael O’Neal edged Hansel Koh and Jeffrey Rangel in a playoff for the final exempt spot.

Also earning non-exempt cards were Pat Howard, Mark Rice, David Jackson, Kory Storer, Phil Telliard, Michael Nicoletti, Isaac Weintraub, Greg Machtaler and Jacob Kimball.

The newest members of the Canadian Tour will get their first taste of action the week of April 20 when they tee it up at the Mexican PGA Championship, which kicks off the four-event Mexican swing.
